Inauguration of the Iron Swords war memorial

The monument is on Rupin Street, in front of the National Library. Engraved on it are the names of the soldiers and members of the Jerusalem security and rescue forces who fell since the beginning of the war, along with the residents of the city who were murdered in the hostilities of the war.

Sunday evening in Jerusalem, a ceremony was held to inaugurate the memorial honoring the 83 fallen and murdered residents of the capital in the Iron Swords War. The event was attended by President Isaac Herzog, Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion, and representatives of the bereaved families. John Polin, the father of Hirsch Goldberg-Polin, who was kidnapped to Gaza and murdered by his Hamas captors, offered a prayer for the return of the hostages.

The monument is designed in the shape of a Star of David, with iron plates rising from its vertices towards the sky like prayers, together forming a broken and uprooted tree. However, this tree holds the potential for growth and healing, symbolizing strength and the power of connection and unity emerging from immense grief.

We hope that this memorial will serve as a source of comfort for the bereaved families, for the city of Jerusalem, and for the people of Israel.
