Pahia Amos, Astypalia

The design of Pahia Ammos, a villa compound in the heart of the Greek islands is developed as an integral part of the topography of the island, almost invisible from above. The architecture incorporates long, horizontal roofs embedded in the landscape, pointing at the endless horizon and creating expansive verandas to shade the villas from the summer sun.

Arriving by sea or air only, the villas are situated in a virgin landscape. They are set on steep topography and the design capitalizes on these features, creating strong connections between indoor and outdoor areas while maintaining privacy and opening the house to ocean and mountain views from every angle.

The masterplan of the villa compound

Each villa is situated in it’s distinct plot, characterized by different physical conditions: the cliff, the lagoon, the hill and the beach. These characteristics create a different design approach for each villa while maintaining the fundamental values of the architecture – ecological construction, smart layouts, modest materials and an architecture embedded in the landscape.

The pristine area requires comprehensive infrastructure planning, including electricity, water and road access with the intent of creating a leisure destination with minimal environmental impact.
